I do not know any German, though I am of German extraction. Certainly, I know some words of Germanic origin, likely learning them from the History Channel or a feature film. Frau, fraulein. Herr. Sure, there's a few. I had the opportunity to take German in high school, but opted for Spanish instead. At the time of my choice, I lived in Texas and saw no need to learn German with the Mexican border to my immediate south. I went to a Catholic high school and many of the priests spoke German. I would like to visit Germany some day, but I would not know how to ask for the bathroom and would likely end up dead of kidney stones, a tourist tragedy that could have been avoided with a proper education in the German language. I'd like to own a BMW. I enjoy bratwurst and German beers (bier). I've been to Germany at EPCOT center, but I don't think that counts.
