I have a love/hate relationship with lesson plans. I love giving structure to my work and seeing a conscious flow of thought toward an objective, but I hate it when they get derailed, and they always do, because I spent precious time writing them up. In my first year of teaching, I spent a lot of time writing lesson plans with crystal clear behavioral objectives and all the fancy adjectives from Bloom's Taxonomy. They looked nice, suitable for framing. As it turned out, I adhered to the objectives I set in my plans but not necessarily to the methodologies outlined. Time frames were ignored. If I thought something would take 5 minutes, it usually would end up taking 10. For the last few years, I've been writing short lesson plans with bullet point objectives. Generally, I try to teach three concepts in every lesson and try to teach each concept at least three different ways in my 45 minute long classes. Essentially, I write a script in my head with some bullet point reminders for emphasis. Occasionally, I'll check the teacher websites for ideas and ready made solutions. Here are a few auctions for lesson plans.
